It's all about rewards and encouragement.
To encourage the students, at school, every time the students can finish their snack or lunch they'll get one star. That means if they can finish both snack and lunch they'll get two stars each day. Meaning again, if every day of the week they can finish both snack and lunch, by the end of the week, each student will get 10 stars. But, each time the students cannot finish the lunch, they will get minus (-) star. The system is applied per week, which means that on every Monday, they all start with 0 star. It might sound like just a trivial thing about eating; nothing academic about it. But, it is also about whether the students can perform the asked tasks well or not, whether they can compete or not, right?
Since Kayla eat very slowly, up until last week she always got minus stars by the end of week, whether it was -2 stars or just -1 star. Why? She had never been able to finish her lunch. We ran out of idea to encourage her to get plus stars by the end of week. I tried from encouraging her, telling her, to getting angry to her ... all failed.
Then we remember of things she loves most ... fancy pens or any writing and drawing supplies like markers, pencils ... anything with different functions, colours, shapes and styles. So, I told her that every time she got 1 star, then she would get 1 pen. Dadaaa ... she suddenly could finish both her snack and lunch each day of the week. And, finally, she managed to get 10 pens.
Good work, Kayla!
